End Cue is a complete redesign of the modern film production firm: a hybrid technology software company and film development and production company. We apply Silicon Valley principles and groundbreaking technology to the creative storytelling process. Our work spans across multiple categories, including feature-length film, animation, documentary, and television. End Cue was founded by Andrew and Walter Kortschak.
Andrew Kortschak / Principal
Originally from Palo Alto, Andrew Kortschak comes from a background of tech industry innovators. Upon co-founding End Cue in 2013, Andrew has worked to combine his interests in film, animation, technology, and documentaries.
Andrew is a graduate of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, where during his studies he spent time working at Pixar Animation Studios as a Production Assistant for MONSTERS UNIVERSITY. Since graduation, he has given several guest lectures to students on the process and strategy of independent filmmaking.
As a producer, Andrew has several features in development, including Jon Watts’ untitled EXPLORERS project, Taika Waititi’s stop-motion animation film BUBBLES, and MOONFALL, a science fiction feature written by David Weil and to be produced with Ram Bergman (STAR WARS, LOOPER).
When not in his office or on set, he can be found hiding in the server room playing with the End Cue modular synth.
Walter Kortschak / Principal
Walter Kortschak co-founded End Cue, to which he brings more than 30 years of early- and growth-stage technology investment experience. His knowledge has been invaluable in developing such content as SILICON IS JUST SAND, an original article produced in collaboration with Epic Magazine that follows the tech boom in Silicon Beach; Taika Waititi’s stop-motion animation film BUBBLES; and in producing the first film based on an AI-generated original screenplay.
Walter currently serves as Executive Chairman of SignalFire, an early-stage venture capital firm in San Francisco. He is also a fund advisor to several micro-VC firms in Silicon Valley and an active angel investor in such notable companies as AltSchool, First Republic Bank, Lyft, Palantir, Trade Desk, Twitter, and Uber. He was a Managing Partner at Summit Partners for 21 years, responsible for investing in over 50 companies, many of which achieved successful public exits. He started his venture career at Crosspoint Venture Partners and is a six-time Forbes Midas List investor.
Walter received a BS from Oregon State University, an MS from Caltech, both in engineering, and an MBA from UCLA. He serves as a member of the Board of Trustees at Caltech and is a past director of the National Venture Capital Association.
Deb Ray / Chief Technology Officer
Debajyoti (Deb) Ray leads the development of End Cue’s artificial intelligence platform, which analyzes and generates original content.
Previously, Deb was the Chief Data Officer for VideoAmp, a cross-screen data and buying platform for digital video and TV advertising, where he now serves as an Advisor. Prior to that, he founded Pasadena Labs, where he built a ML-based hyperlocal ad platform used by clients such as Microsoft and IAC. He developed computer vision products at Microsoft Research, and deep learning algorithms for high-frequency trading.
In addition to advising and investing in several AI companies, Deb has been awarded several patents and his publications are highly cited. Deb completed his PhD at Caltech in Computation and Neural Systems.
Munika Lay / Director, Strategy & Business Development
Munika Lay joined End Cue from Paramount Pictures, where she led the Strategic Planning & Business Development group, coordinating the greenlight process and developing business plans for new media and technologies.
Prior to that, Munika worked in Planning & Analysis at Warner Bros., where she identified and built out cross-departmental efficiencies. She was also an integral part of QED International, the independent film financing and international sales company behind DISTRICT 9 and FURY. She started her career at WME Entertainment in the Motion Picture Literary and Global Finance & Distribution groups.
Munika hails from Long Beach, California, and she holds an MBA from USC’s Marshall School of Business and a BA in Communication from Stanford University.
Sadaf Amouzegar / Data Scientist
Sadaf Amouzegar’s work at End Cue involves using Bayesian statistics, natural language processing, predictive analytics, and deep learning to create data-driven platforms that empower the art of storytelling.
She obtained her B.S. in Computer Science from the California Institute of Technology in 2015. Since then, she has applied and honed her skills on projects ranging from image-based activity recognition to rocket engine anomaly detection and distribution optimization for retail supply chains.
Prior to joining End Cue, Sadaf worked as a software engineer and data scientist at a number of institutions such as Qualcomm, Smartrac, and SpaceX. When she is not busy mining and crunching data, Sadaf likes to write poetry, read, and play guitar.
Nathan Crockett / Software Engineer, Data Visualization
An astrophysicist by training, Nathan Crockett leverages his experience working with unique datasets to create data visualizations at End Cue. He also develops full stack web applications for End Cue’s suite of SaaS products.
Prior to entering the tech industry, Nathan was a postdoctoral scholar at Caltech. His research focused on using molecular emission to study star and planet formation and understand the origins of organic molecules in space. Before that, Nathan earned his PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Michigan, where he led a team that modeled the chemical emission from a broadband spectrum (the largest of its kind) toward the Orion Molecular Cloud.
Before joining End Cue, Nathan worked at Malachiarts, a tech consultancy based in Southern California. He also holds a BS from the University of Arizona in astronomy and physics.
Lisa Ciuffetti / Office Manager & Creative Executive
Lisa Ciuffetti initially started with End Cue after graduating from UCLA, where she studied both English Literature and Film. At End Cue she runs the office and also develops and produces alongside Andrew Kortschak, working as a Co-Producer on Riley Stearns’ upcoming ART OF SELF DEFENSE and Duncan Skiles’ CLOVEHITCH.
Prior to End Cue, Lisa worked for Sundance for the Feature Film Department’s Writer and Director Labs, and interned in the Verve Literary and Talent Agency mailroom.
